Intro to AP

AP Classes are Advanced Placement classes typically taken in high school to prepare students for college-level classes, unlike Dual credit or Honors. It's run by CollegeBoard ( the organization that gives the SAT and PSAT) and has a vast variety of courses for students. Some AP courses consist of:

  • AP Physics 1
  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP Calculus BC
  • AP Art History
  • AP Music Theory

Pick which AP classes helped you

Now a big question is which AP classes that can help you in your future or develop feelings and interest in your future career. Picking AP classes depend on a few factors:

  • Your strengths and weakness - If you have strength and writing essays or doing speeches then try AP Eng/Lit or AP Seminar
  • Your Workload and Time management - If you add more and more ap classes to your schedule, you will notice that you won't get a lot of time free to yourself as you will spend hours upon hours working which could lower your grades due to stress, being tired, and burn out of working for hours upon hours
  • Your Perspective on Your Major - On CollegeBoard's website (https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/choosing-courses/by-major-career), you can see which AP classes are suggested for any major.
  • Which Colleges grant scores for credit- The benefit of AP classes is that you don't need to take these classes in colleges as you can get credit by scoring high on the AP exams. Each college has its requirements on what you should get to get credit for that class.
