What are AP classes and why are they important?

Ap Classes are Advanced Placement classes typically taken in high school to prepare students for college-level classes, unlike Dual credit or Honors. It is run by CollegeBoard ( the organization that gives the SAT and PSAT) and has a vast variety of courses for students.

  • Ap Physics 1
  • Ap Environmental Science
  • AP Calculus BC
  • Ap Art History
  • Ap Music Theory

These AP classes are important as they can increase chances at universities you wanted to go to or can give you college credit, saving time for classes you already took. One more thing that these AP courses can help you with is that they can find your passion. Maybe you have a passion for Computer Science so you took Computer Science Ap classes or maybe you want to be an artist then you can take many forms of art Ap classes.


How can Ap Classes improve your chances at College Admissions?

Ap Classes can increase your chances for college admissions in many ways. First off, it'll prove to admission officers that you are skilled to take college-level work. Second thing is that it can boost and strengthen your high school transcript. In a lot of school districts, Ap classes can increase your weighted GPA by 10 points on the 100 point scale. It's the reason why you may see students with a 4.5+ weighted GPA of 4.0. Having a high GPA and a good course load can heavily improve your chances at your dream school.


How to sign up for Ap classes?

You can sign up for AP classes by your high school if they offer them. The only thing that can stop you from signing up for these classes is that your school could have certain requirements like you have to pass Algebra 2 to be in AP Physics 1 so do well in classes to join these classes.

Are you ready to take these classes?

Be aware that these classes are not like a regular class or an ACC (formerly called Pre Ap classes ). These courses are there to challenge you to help shape your academic image in colleges. Taking these courses can lead to sleepless nights, hours of cramming, and understanding knowledge which could affect your mental health but that's not the case for all classes. Some Ap classes can be easy depending on you. You may know Chinese or Spanish well to excel in those courses. Or you could be a great mathematician and you may easily get an A + on Calculus or Statistics. Taking these classes will have its ups and downs and it depends on how much you can handle.
