How to Break your Phone Addiction

Introduction

Overuse of smartphones may take many different forms. Perhaps you frequently stay up late watching TikTok or Instagram videos. Or it may be challenging to be present for others, your work, or yourself due to the attraction of your smartphone.

  • Set aside one day of the week - By making a habit of it, it builds discipline and self-control, allowing you to detach yourself from the phone.
  • Make Your Phone Less Appealing - By turning off alerts or setting your phone's screen to grayscale, for example, you might make it less aesthetically appealing. Rearranging your phone's applications sometimes makes them more difficult to discover and less likely to get you into a mindless cycle of checking and rechecking out of habit.
  • Use applications that improve your life - These apps should offer worth and purpose or are necessary for your job, not ones that will lead you astray.
  • Set rules around your use of phones - It is advised to find alternative, less restrictive strategies to avoid using your phone every day. For example, setting aside the hours before and after school when you don't use your phone at all. Additionally, it can entail keeping your phone out of your bedroom or leaving it in another room.
  • Avoid Charging Your Phone Near Bed - This ensures that your phone isn’t the last thing you see before you sleep, and isn’t what you wake up to.

Conclusion

Cell phones are amazing and offer a plethora of advantages when utilized as a set of tools to enhance my career, health, parenting, and life. However, when used carelessly and without aim, they have the additional detrimental impact of serving as a diversion from the things in life that matter.
