How to Stay Motivated?
Introduction
It feels hard to be motivated in high school, even when you care deeply about the work you’re doing. Here are some tips to stay motivated throughout high school. No matter how much work you may have, following these guidelines will help you stay motivated and allow you to finish those tasks.
- Make a Calendar: If you remain on top of all of your responsibilities, the school won't seem like such a burden. To keep track of all of your schoolwork, get a daily planner. Put all of your homework and deadlines for projects in this calendar.
- Break a Large task into Smaller Ones: Let’s say you have a research essay, one that requires research, citations, and writing. Instead of treating the task as something you have to complete in one sitting, split it into smaller tasks and do them individually. For example, on day 1, research your topic. The next day, begin compiling your sources and citing them. Finally, on the third day, synthesize your sources and write your essay. This way, your large task seems much more manageable.
- Set Rewards: It is important to have something to look forward to once you are done with your work. Setting a reward at the end of your task helps you be motivated toward finishing your task. For example, if you work on your project for 2 hours, then you can watch Netflix for an hour.
- Create a Study Group: When you're studying with friends, it feels easier to be motivated. However, a real study group shouldn’t be like the one you’ve seen in Community. It is important to not get distracted and be focused on studying. Try to limit your group members to under 5 to ensure that it doesn’t get too distracting. Otherwise, studying with your friends is a great way to stay motivated.
- Create a Daily Schedule: To succeed in school, it is important to create a schedule that you follow after school. Make a schedule that includes time for studying, extracurriculars, and free time, to allow you to plan out your whole week. This way, you know what you’re doing each day.
Conclusion

Sometimes when you feel as if you are struggling to advance in the direction of our objectives, use the 5 tricks mentioned above. In certain circumstances, it can be beneficial to use both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators.
