What is a Passion Project?

A passion project would be something you work on outside of school/work/etc that brings you joy and satisfaction in yourself. It's kind of like an escape in your own world as it's your own creation. You may be the biggest person in the world but you will feel stress-free and just calmly work on this project. The biggest benefit of this project for high schoolers is that it can be an activity that you enjoy and work on for a long time. This project can help your college applications in a big way as many reports show that passion projects can lead you to more colleges than having a 4.0 and a 1600 score.

How can you decide what project in what passion to focus on?

So here comes the hardest question, what should you do? Well honestly speaking, it comes to you. Everyone in the world has a different passion/hobby in place which can be even the smallest thing. I suggest that you should focus on something related to your major or something that is your hobby to relieve stress. If you are a musician, make music and share it with the world. If you are an artist, then make art and sell it for charity. If you are a chef, then make a social media page and share what you make or start a business selling your food. There are possibilities of ideas that you can do for a passion project and should consider expanding that passion.

Conclusion

Even though it can be time-consuming, having a passion project benefits you in the future and helps boost your mental/emotional health as well. It may sound like it is easy but it is not. You shouldn't try to make one about something that you weren't even affected by it or felt left out by something. This project should be with you and should reflect vastly on your personality and let admission officers know who you are and what you represent as a person in the world.
