Learn From your freshman year mistakes

Congrats, you are a sophomore, you survived your freshman year of high school but it's now time to grow up a little. Sophomore year is one of the two most important years for high school on your college applications. So every mistake you made in your Freshman year, you need to spend time learning from that. If you failed a class or didn’t get the grade you wanted, find out why you didn’t get that grade. After that, use the new ideas/strategies you learn to make sure that this year performs better than last year. If your issue is time management, then use a calendar to help you. If your issue is to remember the lessons before a quiz or test, then practice more on your memory skills. You need to make sure you learn from your mistakes because they can come back and hurt you at a crucial time.

Expect more work and long hours

I mean it when you should expect to have more work and spend long hours during your sophomore year. If you are having a ton of ACC or starting with AP classes, you will have a workload. Plus you need to work on prepping for the PSAT or the SAT, work on improving your extracurriculars, and develop relationships with teachers. If you can manage all of this, you will be fine for the future plus time is money so make sure you can use time as an advantage and not a disadvantage.

Start thinking about Colleges

During this time, I highly recommend that you should start thinking about College/ University and make a list of what you should do in order to have a chance at great schools. There are a lot of things to do in order to make a college list which is

  • What major do you want to learn?
  • Where is the university?
  • How can it benefit you?
  • How much does it cost and what plans to pay for it?
  • Others' opinions of schools you want to go to

This list is just a small example of what you should factor in making a college list. Having a clear direction on what you want to do and where to go can benefit you in the future mostly in your junior and senior years.

Conclusion

Sophomore year may sound tiring and boring but it's wise to keep everything intact as it will be easier for your junior and senior years. It will require more work and time but the more you do, the more you can enjoy in the future knowing you put the effort in to be where you are in the future. Just remember that life is a race, nothing will beat you down like life and you need to find a way to overcome that beating.
